A BETTER WORD
LYRICS
O Lord, how long until You answer every prayer?
We see the blood that spilled, the pain we cannot bear
The ground is groaning deep, the cries that shake the earth
While countless watch and weep, a whisper still is heard
Your blood – it speaks a true and better word
Of mercy where the cries of pain once stirred
Uncovers all that evil tries to keep from being heard
Your blood – it speaks a true and better word
O Lord, are you asleep? Will you not turn to us?
Our broken bodies plead, O Lord, are you not just?
For you were crushed and bruised, acquainted with our grief
Now guiltless by your wounds, our healing is complete
No more the sword shall reign
No more the tyrant's crown
Your kingdom comes in grace
Your love will break us down.
The silence of the grave was shattered when You rose
And now Your living word through ev'ry sorrow flows

This song helps the Church pray when the world feels heavy. It gives worshipers permission to grieve without despairing. We can ask, “O Lord, are You asleep?” because Christ Himself entered our suffering. We can cry out for justice because the risen Jesus is making all things new.
The bridge lis our eyes toward the coming kingdom: no more sword, no more tyrant’s crown, no more silence of the grave. The resurrection has shattered death, and now the living Word flows through every sorrow.
